Category: India is endowed with a coastline of 8129 km; 2.02 million sq. km of EEZ and 0.5 million sq. km of continental shelf which has a catchable annual marine fishery potential of 3.93 million tonnes and occupies a unique position. The vibrancy of fisheries sector justifies the importance of the sector on the country’s economy and in livelihood security. Besides; there are vast brackishwater spread areas all along the coastline; which offer ideal sites for coastal aquaculture & mariculture.
